Profound Review (2026): Powerful for Enterprises, Overkill for Founders?

Profound Review (2026): Powerful for Enterprises, Overkill for Founders?

TL;DR

Profound is the most feature-complete AI-visibility platform we tested this cycle: six modules span demand data, answer-engine monitoring, crawler analytics, ChatGPT Shopping, content agents, and a background agent called Aim. It is built and priced for marketing teams, not solo founders — the $99 Starter tracks only ChatGPT.[1][2]

It's a strong fit if you have a marketing team, multiple AI engines to track, and budget from $399/month for meaningful coverage.[2] The Growth tier ($399/mo) is where three answer engines, three seats, and weekly opportunity alerts actually unlock — that's the real starting line for doing work.

It's probably overkill if you're a solo founder who mainly needs to see why AI doesn't recommend your product and get it fixed — the $99 Starter tracks only ChatGPT with 50 prompts and a single seat.[2]

One caveat worth naming for a company that sells answer-engine optimization: at test time, its own /llms.txt returned a 404 and its homepage structured data was buried inside a JavaScript payload that crawlers without JS execution may miss.[3] That doesn't negate the product — it just reminds you that how useful the tool is and how completely the vendor built its own foundation are two separate questions.

What is Profound?

Profound (tryprofound.com) positions itself as "the marketing platform for the AI era" — a suite for tracking and improving how brands appear across AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Copilot, Meta AI, and DeepSeek.[1][4] Per its own AI-instructions page, the company was founded in August 2024 and has raised $155M+.[4] That figure lines up with its published funding history: in February 2026 it announced a $96M Series C at a $1B valuation.[5][14]

The product is aimed squarely at marketing teams, content teams, PR/brand teams, and agencies — its solutions pages are organized by exactly those roles.[1] This is not a founder-first, self-serve utility; it's a platform you staff. For the underlying concepts, start with our generative engine optimization glossary and answer engine optimization glossary.

Profound also runs a heavy content operation of its own: roughly 246 long-form pieces across ~178 blog posts and ~68 resources (articles, webinars, white papers, podcasts), plus a programmatic "Profound vs [competitor]" comparison cluster covering 13 rivals.[13] A large share of its blog reads as a changelog — one post per feature launch — which doubles as low-cost SEO. It's a useful signal of how seriously the company treats being found, not just measuring visibility for others.

Feature-by-feature

Profound's platform breaks into six modules.[1] Here is what each does, based on its published feature pages.

Prompt Volumes. Surfaces what real users ask AI engines, so you can align your prompt strategy with actual demand. Sub-features include real-demand data, content-gap analysis, and trend tracking.[1] This is Profound's answer to "keyword volume" for the AI era.

Answer Engine Insights. The monitoring core: visibility scoring and share-of-voice, citation analysis, sentiment, competitive benchmarking, and cross-platform comparisons.[6] It also ships a FactCheck capability that flags what AI gets wrong about your brand so you can correct it — a genuinely useful angle most trackers skip.[6]

Agent Analytics. Monitors AI-crawler activity on your site, attributes AI-driven human traffic, tracks which pages get cited, and includes a "Submit to AI Search" function to push new content to crawlers.[7] This is the "server-log side" of GEO, and Profound treats it as a first-class module. To make sense of the bots, see our complete list of AI crawlers.

Shopping. Tracks how products appear in ChatGPT Shopping, with product-visibility tracking, keyword intelligence, and merchant-relationship signals.[1] Relevant if you sell physical or e-commerce products; irrelevant for most B2B SaaS.

Agents. A no-code workflow builder for producing AEO-optimized content at scale, with a self-reinforcing optimization loop (track which content gets cited, reuse the pattern), content-refresh detection, AEO FAQ generation, and CMS integration.[8] Agents run on a separate credit model.[2]

Aim. A "background agent built for marketers" that runs an Identify → Plan → Execute → Measure → Co-work loop, sitting above the Agents module as a persistent collaborator.[9]

One design detail worth copying: Profound's articles carry "Open in ChatGPT" and "Open in Claude" buttons, letting a reader drop the piece straight into an AI chat.[10] It's a small, thoughtful nod to how people now consume content.

Pricing

Profound publishes three tiers (annual billing shown; annual plans include two months free). Enterprise pricing is not publicly disclosed.[2]

Plan Price Engines tracked Prompts Seats Notable includes
Starter $99/mo ChatGPT only 50 1 Email support, 100 agent credits/mo
Growth ("Popular") $399/mo 3 answer engines 100 3 400 agent credits/mo, 4 weekly opportunities, free trial
Enterprise Custom (not disclosed) Up to 10 Custom Custom SSO/SAML, SOC 2, API access, dedicated Slack support, multi-company tracking

The jump that matters: multi-engine tracking, more seats, and "weekly opportunities" only arrive at the $399 Growth tier. The $99 Starter is best read as an entry point for watching your ChatGPT presence, not a full workspace.[2]

Strengths

Credit where it's due — Profound earns its reputation on several fronts.

  1. Breadth few others in this set match. Prompt Volumes (demand data), Agent Analytics (crawler/log analytics), and Shopping (ChatGPT Shopping) are three modules most AI-visibility tools don't offer at all.[1] If you want one platform to cover measurement, demand, crawlers, and commerce, Profound is the most complete option we reviewed.

  2. Enterprise-grade compliance and integration. SOC 2, SSO/SAML, and API access on Enterprise, plus a published HIPAA-compliance milestone for healthcare AEO.[2][11] These are the boxes procurement teams check, and Profound checks them.

  3. A real content operation, and a "FactCheck" that fixes errors. Beyond monitoring, Profound offers Agents for self-reinforcing content production and a FactCheck feature aimed at correcting what AI gets wrong about your brand — moving past "here's your score" into "here's what to change."[6][8]

  4. Well-capitalized, so it's likely to stick around. With $155M+ raised, a $1B valuation, and an active release cadence (its blog reads partly as a changelog), the platform is investing heavily and shipping often.[4][14]

  5. Textbook entity-graph structured data. Its homepage JSON-LD uses an @graph with @id cross-references linking Organization → WebSite → Service — a clean model for entity disambiguation.[3] To replicate it, see our JSON-LD templates for AI search.

Limitations

These are the things our teardown could verify — not speculation.

  • The $99 Starter is thin. ChatGPT only, 50 prompts, one seat, 100 agent credits. Meaningful multi-engine coverage starts at $399/month.[2]
  • Its own GEO plumbing has gaps. At test time, /llms.txt returned 404 even though robots.txt explicitly contains Allow: /llms.txt; /llms-full.txt and /.well-known/ai.txt were also 404.[3][12] For a company selling AEO, "intent ahead of delivery" is a fair characterization. To self-check this, read our complete llms.txt guide.
  • Structured data hides behind JavaScript. The homepage JSON-LD isn't served as a static <script type="application/ld+json"> tag — it's embedded in a Next.js RSC streaming payload (self.__next_f.push(...)) and only becomes a real tag after hydration, so crawlers that don't execute JS may miss it.[3]
  • Markdown-direct output is an experiment, not a feature. Only one blog post's .md version returned 200 at test time; three other sampled articles' .md versions were 404.[3]
  • Enterprise pricing is opaque. You'll need to contact sales; no public number.[2]
  • It assumes a team. Modules, credits, seats, and role-based solutions all point at staffed marketing orgs, not individual operators.[1]

Who it's for / not for

A good fit if: you run or sit on a marketing, content, or PR team; you need to track several AI engines plus crawler behavior and (for e-commerce) ChatGPT Shopping; you can budget from $399/month; and enterprise controls like SSO and SOC 2 matter to you.[1][2]

Look elsewhere if: you're a solo founder or a small team without dedicated SEO/marketing staff; you mainly want to understand why AI isn't recommending you and get concrete fixes shipped; or your budget and single-engine focus make the $99 tier's limits a dealbreaker.[2]

What customers and the founder say

A review needs more than a feature list — it helps to hear from real users and from the people who built the machine.

Profound's homepage carries a testimonial from George Bonaci, VP of Growth & Demand at Ramp: "Before Profound, AI Search was a black box. Now it's a competitive advantage."[3] The line captures its sharpest selling point: turning something previously invisible into something you can measure and benchmark.

The founder's bet on the category is bigger. Co-founder and CEO James Cadwallader framed it in the company's Series C announcement: "AI Search is the biggest platform shift in the history of marketing. As AI Agents act for consumers to research, compare, and transact, brands need their own Agents doing the same thing on the other side."[14] That explains why Agents and Aim sit at the product's core — Profound isn't only wagering on measurement, but on an "agent-to-agent" model of marketing.

There's a customer voice on the same thesis. Ravish Agrawal, Growth Marketing Lead at Gamma, said in the same announcement: "We're in the early innings of AI-native distribution. The teams building for AI-powered growth today will define the next era."[5] Three quotes from three different people and organizations all point at one persona: companies that already have a growth team and are willing to invest in getting ahead of AI distribution.

The weight shows up in the numbers, too. Per its February 2026 Series C announcement, the $96M round was led by Lightspeed with participation from Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins and others, at a $1B post-money valuation; the release states that over 500 customers use Profound Agents daily and names customers including Target, Walmart, Figma, MongoDB, Charlotte Tilbury, and US Bank.[14][15] Those names (all disclosed by Profound and not independently verified here) confirm the center of gravity is enterprise — which is the flip side of "heavy for a founder." How BrandGEO compares

Profound is a broad measurement-and-workflow platform for teams. BrandGEO takes the opposite starting point: it's a fix-first tool for founders who already have a website but no SEO team. The loop is deliberately narrow — audit your AI visibility, hand you a concrete fix pack (generated llms.txt, structured data, and articles), then re-verify — rather than a suite of dashboards you staff and configure. If you need demand data, crawler analytics, and shopping intelligence across ten engines, Profound is the deeper platform. If you want the shortest path from "why doesn't AI mention me?" to "it's fixed and re-checked," that gap is the one BrandGEO is built to close.

FAQ

How much does Profound cost?

Starter is $99/month (ChatGPT only, 50 prompts, 1 seat), Growth is $399/month (3 engines, 100 prompts, 3 seats), and Enterprise is custom and not publicly disclosed. Prices reflect annual billing.[2]

Does the $99 Starter plan track more than ChatGPT?

No. Per the pricing page, Starter tracks ChatGPT only. Tracking three answer engines starts at the $399 Growth plan.[2]

Does Profound just monitor, or does it also help produce content?

Both. Beyond monitoring (Answer Engine Insights), it offers Agents for content workflows and a FactCheck feature to correct what AI gets wrong about your brand.[6][8]

Is Profound suitable for a solo founder?

It can be used solo, but its module/credit/seat structure and role-based solutions are built for marketing teams; a single founder may find it more platform than they need.[1][2]

Does Profound publish an llms.txt file?

Its robots.txt references Allow: /llms.txt, but at the time of testing the file itself returned a 404, as did /llms-full.txt and /.well-known/ai.txt.[3][12]
